Extensions:  After students write their own pieces about a favorite place, do another version about the setting in a novel, a state, a colony, or a region in the United States.  They collect details from the novel, or facts from your social studies book to describe the location.

Extensions: After writing their own I LOVE lists, have students write one for a character from a novel or a historical person.  If students are writing reports about famous people, this could be an introductory piece, mixing informational writing with poetry.
