NOTE that might make life easier: If you haven’t done so yet, installing the Substack APP on your phone makes ALL of this more streamlined if posting from your phone. For me, it’s much easier to write comments from my desktop, but I use both.
INTRO. VIDEO: Overview of Haiku Sharing Options
VIDEO #1: How to Find Lorrie Tom/Power Lines on Substack
Option #1: Leave a comment from an email or post from my Substack page
VIDEO #2: How to Leave a Comment
In your weekend email below each writing prompt, I’ve added a LEAVE A COMMENT button (if only I could change it to LEAVE A HAIKU). Just click on this and post your haiku.
You can do this option instead of sharing in the CHAT if that’s easier.
You can’t share images with this option.
If you have an image to share, I think that option is only available in the CHAT. BUT ALSO NOTE, you have to be subscribed to Power Lines to have access to the chat.
Option #2 (preferred): Post in the Chat
Video #3: How to Find the Chat
Video #4: How to Post in the Chat
From Your Phone
Open the Substack App.
Use the search bar at the top to find Power Lines. This is my Logo.
When you get to my home page, click on CHAT from the menu bar at the top.
If you haven’t done so, subscribe to our member CHAT. This is a one-time requirement.
You’ll see a START A NEW THREAD bar at the bottom of the page. Click on that and add your haiku and/or photo/video (images are optional).
Alternatively, you can scroll to the Graphic with the CORRECT DATE and # for the haiku you want to post. It will look like this:
Click on LEAVE A REPLY.
Type your haiku. (You can hit return to make three separate lines, or simply use // after your first and second lines to make line breaks.)
And/or, click on + and photo if you want to upload a photo you saved.
And/or click on + and Video if you want to upload a video you saved.
And/or, click on + and camera if you want to make an on-the-spot video or photo.
Important: This is a safe space so no negative comments or writing advice. Please leave at least three haiku writers some love by pressing down on their reply to bring up sweet emojis.
You are welcome to leave additional comments in a SUBTHREAD, but it’s not required or expected. (Tap your reply for the option to REPLY IN A NEW SUBTHREAD. )
To DELETE your reply, tap your reply to bring up options.
EDITING a reply is a bit trickier (and not yet available for Android). The option to EDIT goes away after a certain amount of time. If you don’t see EDIT in your options, you’ll need to DELETE your reply and add a new one. Fortunately, this isn’t a big deal when writing haiku since they are short.
From Your Desktop
Go to lorrietom.substack.com
Click on CHAT from the menu bar at the top. You will only see this option if you are subscribed to Power Lines.
If you see a QR code, you can bypass that and click on OR OPEN ON WEB below it.
Click on START A NEW THREAD or scroll to the Graphic with the CORRECT DATE and # for the haiku you want to post. It will look like this:
Type your haiku. (Use // after your first and second lines to make line breaks. CAUTION: If you hit RETURN it will make a new reply.)
And/or, click on the picture icon if you want to upload a photo you saved.
And/or, click on the video camera icon if you want to upload a saved video of you reading your haiku.
Important: This is a safe space so no negative comments or writing advice. Please leave at least three haiku writers some love by hovering your mouse over the top of your reply to bring up emoji options.
You are welcome to leave additional comments in a SUBTHREAD, but it’s not required or expected. (Use the three dots to get the REPLY IN A NEW SUBTHREAD option. )
To DELETE your reply, move your mouse to the side of your reply and you’ll see three dots. Click on the three dots for options.
EDITING replies can be a bit tricky. If you need to edit, find those three dots again. If EDIT shows up, you can edit. However, after a certain amount of time, the EDIT option disappears. That means you need to DELETE your post and write a new one. Not a big deal when writing haiku since they are short.
Option #3: Email me your haiku
This is a good option if you’re having technical difficulties and you’d like me to post in the chat for you, or you’d like your haiku to remain private. That being said, I encourage you to share your poems with the group. That’s when the magic happens! Plus, this is a safe and supportive communuity of humans.
