What’s in the daily emails, and is it essential that I read them?

The emails will arrive in the morning from April 21-30. They will include the following:

Tiny tips for writing haiku
Optional haiku writing prompts

The emails aren’t essential. You can do the challenge without them, but they will help you stay on track and build community with all of our haiku poets!

Does PPWriC cost anything?

Nope.

What if I don’t write a haiku for every day of the challenge?

No worries. The goal is to have ten haiku and write one-a-day, but do what works for you!

Can my kids do the challenge, too?

Yes. Please encourage them to do it with you. Everyone in your family can write their own, or you could write one together each day.

What is the connection between haiku and pie? I’m confused!

I’m just having fun and finding an excuse to eat pie and write haiku, but here’s an image that shows why poetry and pie go hand in hand.

Do I have to share my haiku?

Nope.

Where do I write my haiku?

Use whatever you like! Part of the fun is deciding what you want to use. I have big journals, tiny journals, pages on a clipboard, index cards…I’ve used them all.

For this challenge, I like to compose on my phone in the memos or type on top of a photo that I can post to Instagram.

What do I do with my haiku when the challenge is over?

Save them. Your haiku are a great memory-keeping tool for this slice of your life! You can do the challenge again next year and keep adding haiku until your journal is full!

I use Canva to make a darling photo book. It’s easy to download my pictures directly from Instagram.

This year, I purchased a tiny Canon IVY printer. It prints tiny stickers right from my phone! I will stick photographs with haiku written on them into a tiny journal. I reference it in this video.

Is the word HAIKU capitalized?

No.

What’s the plural of HAIKU?

Haiku. Same for singular and plural.
